Kurtis Moody tallied 22 points as the No. 4-seeded Pequot Lakes Patriots pulled away in the second half for a 55-48 win over the No. 5 Pelican Rapids Vikings in the South Subsection 8-2A quarterfinals Thursday. Michael Ward added 15 points for the Patriots, who will put their three-game win streak on the line at Crosby-Ironton in the semifinals Saturday. A new poll finds most Americans oppose Internet and half oppose sports betting, but many have gambled themselves at a casino. The Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll found two-thirds of those surveyed oppose changing the law to allow bets to be placed over the Internet, and 53 percent oppose allowing bets on the outcome of professional or college sporting events. Yet the poll also found 62 percent of those surveyed have gambled at a casino at least once.

As a part of a proposal that each institution had to submit because of proposed budget cuts, there was plan for approximately $1 million in cuts to the Georgia Southern athletics department. Before getting alarmed, students must realize the budget cut is only a proposal. The athletics department could lose any amount from nothing, to less than a million dollars, to more than a million dollars.

The Central Baptist College Lady Mustangs ran their softball record to 18-0 Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Blackburn College, winning the first game 19-0 and the second game 12-0. CBC remains a perfect 18-0 to start the season. In he first game, CBC's offense continued its torrid pace as with 19 runs on 21 hits.

"Stand and Deliver" Teacher, Jaime Escalante, Battling Cancer . Jaime Escalante, the Los Angeles math teacher whose inspirational career was made famous in the 80s hit movie "Stand and Deliver" is battling cancer. His family has run out of money to pay for his medical bills.  

Typically in the days surrounding Austin's SXSW music festival, a few acts push through North Texas that might otherwise get to play in the Metroplex. This weekend also hosts the North Texas Irish Festival in Dallas ' Fair Park ... which means there are even more fun bands to see this weekend. First up is Texas -based artist and songwriter Sam Baker .  

The Collingwood Hanna Motors Atom "A" Blackhawks look to end their OMHA best-of- five semi-final series with the Bracebridge Bears this Saturday. Collingwood has a two-to-one series lead. On Friday night, in Bracebridge, the Blackhawks came away with a 4-2 victory.
